The Four Dimensions That Personalize Your Home Decor

If you ask someone to name the four main aspects of their home decor and design, they will likely mention their carpets, wall coverings and furniture, and then start to think. When designing a room to live in, they will consider these three aspects first and then perhaps add color.

They will likely choose a color scheme, then decorate and furnish each room around that. Here at Patterson Furniture we believe that this is only the start, and that your house becomes a home when you add these extra special touches, such as mirrors, vases, decorative trays, figurines, candles and more.

There are four dimensions to any room in your home, and not those you might be thinking of. These are the dimensions that make your home specifically yours, and involve your use of space, color, design and fragrance. Furniture is less important than the concept, because there is home furniture available to fit in with anybody's concept of how they want their home to look and feel.

Let's look at each of these in turn and find out how we can help you with each of them.

Space

Space refers to the entire three-dimensional space available in each room in your home. When designing the look of your room, whether it is your living room, bedroom, kitchen or even a bathroom, you must look at the entire room, and not just the floors and walls. Look upon each room as being an open space, to be filled with whatever you need to achieve the result you are seeking.

Carpets and rugs lie on the floor, while furniture takes up the rest of the three-dimensional space available to you. You can select furniture that reaches right up to the ceiling, or takes up the width of an entire wall:  it doesn't matter, because what really matters here is how your choice of furniture fits into the space available, and how it provides for your functional needs.

Patterson Furniture offers you a choice of a large variety of furniture designs and concepts, ranging from the traditional French and English Louis and early Georgian periods, through the colonial era to the ultra-modern chrome and stainless steel of today. Whether you prefer the intricacy of the Jacobean style or the simplicity of Shaker and Amish furniture designs, it is here for you.

You can increase the apparent space in your home by the use of mirrors. Mirrors open up the dimension of space, particularly when two or three mirrors are arranged to reflect into each other.  The Theodore Alexander collection of mirrors for your home is suitable for any room in your home.

Color

Furniture fills the space, but the color comes from your choice of curtains or drapes, and also of your upholstery fabrics. However, you can also get color from paintings, rugs and vases, and such accent pieces are ideal for complementing or contrasting with your main color scheme. Patterson Furniture offers all of these for you.

It is not always advisable to use highly colored furniture, because in most domestic situations color is best used as a highlight rather than the main theme. Neutrally decorated rooms can be brought alive by using brightly colored modern art prints, colorful vases and trays, and other accent pieces.

Design

The design of a room is very important, and many people decide to take the option of themed rooms. Some prefer Egyptian themes and others Roman, but many Americans opt for Amish furniture or pieces designed with a colonial or revolutionary French theme. Others like to go more contemporary, and opt for the ultra-modern look. Patterson furniture can cater for all of these, and help you to achieve the look you want.

Fragrance

Fragrance is important in any home, and you can introduce a fabulous fragrance by use of scented candles. Whether you use one of the beautiful candlesticks we have to offer, or use your own, your visitors will be impressed by the beautiful aroma of flowers and spices as they enter your house. You might prefer reed diffusers, but there is no doubt whatsoever that the fragrance of any room in your home is very important when you have visitors.

To the four dimensions of space, color, design and fragrance you could add a fifth:  time! You do not want to wait too long before furnishing your home as you want it to look, feel and smell, and here at Patterson Furniture in Atlanta, we can help you every step of the way, from the original design to supplying the items you require.

One of the advantages of using mirrors in home dΘcor is that there is such a huge selection of styles, sizes and colors readily available. They are generally portable, so you can switch them around your various rooms whenever you feel like a change in dΘcor. You can use them to reflect each other, reflect your garden or even the outside light, or even to cast the light from lamps and candles in a different direction.

Mirrors offer you the chance to exploit your own artistic creative abilities at a relatively low cost - and using items that are not permanent but can be moved around your home as you prefer. It's amazing what can be achieved with simple lamps, candles and mirrors: you can reflect your personality on your home and change them around when the mood suits.

Patterson Furniture offers a range of Carvers Guild and Theodore Alexander mirrors in a wide range of sizes and styles, and if you are using mirrors in home dΘcor you are sure to find something to suit you.  Simply pop into one of our two Atlanta showrooms in Lilburn and Roswell and check them out for yourself.
