Loft Furniture: Furniture for Attic and Loft Conversions

Loft furniture tends to be more multifunctional than normal, although few companies manufacture dedicated furniture for attic and loft conversions.  In this respect, the furniture used tends to be very similar to that used in small apartments and cottages. Although some lofts are large, most tend to be relatively small with less ceiling height than normal rooms.

When furnishing a small space, it's extremely useful to ensure that each item of furniture has at least two roles to play. This enables you to make the best use of the available space without making the whole area seem cramped.

Here are some examples of loft furniture that meet this criterion.  Keep in mind that they are not designed specifically for attics but can be used in any size of room. Each of these is available from our showrooms in Roswell and Lilburn, Atlanta.

Loft Seating

Sectional furniture offers the best form of seating for small areas.  You can select the options most suited to the size and shape of your loft, and include the functionally most appropriate for your needs. If you do not have the room for a regular bed, then you can include a sofa bed in your sectional arrangement.

Sectionals can also be fitted with recliners, sliders and lift chairs. If it would help you to situate the arrangement right against a wall, then you can get recliners that are designed to be set against a wall, requiring no space behind for the reclining action.

MotionCraft offers its Zero Wall recliners that can be set right against a wall, or the Wall Huggers that need only 4 to 6 inches of wall space. Visit the MotionCraft website from the Patterson furniture home page.

Attic Dining Furniture

Up to four people can dine comfortably using the 6 foot long Mission dining table manufactured by Stickley Furniture. However, pull out the two 21-inch self-storing leaves, and you will double that number to eight.

If you need more storage space, Simply Amish offer a beautiful loft island table at 54" long x 36" wide, but with an additional 18" leaf, extending the width to 54". This is fitted with double drawers and a spacious cupboard with two shelves. It is ideal for storing cutlery, kitchen tools, crockery and appliances in a small loft or converted attic.

There are many more dining table options available from Simply Amish, Stickley and other manufacturers featured on the Patterson Furniture website.

Loft Sleeping Options: Stickley Starters

Loft conversions are often intended as a spare bedroom, but even if you sleep and live in the same room it is possible to include a regular bed. Sofa beds have been mentioned, and these are no longer the lumpy, uncomfortable creaking things of the past. Due to advances in mattress construction and design, sofa beds are now as comfortable as regular beds.

However, if you use your loft for your children, then you have many different options for kids' bedroom furniture.   Stickley Starters to begin with - you can add to this collection as they grow.  You can start with a child's bed that can be converted to a two-tier bunk bed when necessary.

Alternatively, the top part can be used as a bed, with a desk and storage units underneath.  This enables you to use the same loft space for sleeping accommodation, storage and a homework/computer desk (we both know what that will be mostly used for!) The Stickley Starters collection is designed to grow with your child.

The Custom Shoppe at Patterson Furniture:  Design Your Own!

However, there is no reason why you cannot use the same concept for yourself.  A good imagination is of benefit when designing loft furniture, and if you are blessed with that quality, you can design your own and have it constructed by The Custom Shoppe. Visit their website from our home page and check out what they do - you will be surprised.

The Custom Shoppe does not sell their products directly to consumers, but through qualified furniture outlets. Patterson Furniture can take your order and design and The Custom Shoppe will then cooperate with you in helping you make your idea a reality.

Loft furniture is no different to any other type of furniture, although much of it has either been designed for small rooms, or is suitable to be used in them. By utilizing multifunctional furniture as much as you can, and applying just a bit of imagination, you will be able to find the perfect loft furniture for your attic or loft conversion.
