Jasper Cabinet Company: Beautiful Solid Wood Cabinetry

The Jasper Cabinet Company focuses on cabinets of many different kinds: chests, display cabinets, secretaries, bookcases, kitchen islands and so on. They are all crafted from solid wood and beautifully finished to a very high quality. You can visit their website from our Home Page and enjoy gazing at these beautiful pieces of furniture, imagining how they would look in your home.

The firm was initially known as Schaaf & Schnaus after the two men who started it up in February, 1904. The premises were originally a steam saw mill and planning mill in Jasper, Indiana. The name changed to Jasper Cabinet Company in 1928.

Innovation and Creativity
It has always been a very innovative company, and Jasper Cabinet created and patented the first typewriter desk in 1935. These innovations continued with such items as the anti-dust roll-top desk of 1950 and the first dedicated gun cabinet - in 1963, believe it or not.

The gun cabinet has been widely copied, and is in fact the most widely copied piece of Jasper Cabinet furniture. It was later modified into a display cabinet, and was the beginnings of what came to be known as curio cabinets. Jasper Cabinet Company now offers a good range of gun cabinets and curio cabinets, many of both being collector's pieces.

The company continued as a leading American manufacturer of cabinets and chests until it was purchased by investment company, G.L. Ohstrom & Co. in 1972, when it became part of the Dorset Corporation, a group comprising American furniture manufacturers. It was then sold to the development banking firm, Avenir Group Inc. This group eventually went bust in 2002 after it was unable to recover from a serious strike in 1999. Then, in 2005, Jasper Cabinet Company was resurrected when its management bought it over.

This is real-life tale of rise, fall and resurrection. The resurrected company is now back in full swing with a fabulous selection of products. Some of these are:

Curio cabinets
Jasper Cabinet offers a number of curio cabinets, mainly in dark cherry, although oak finishes are also available. They come in a range of shapes and sizes, including corner curio cabinets. The majority are fitted with a central fixed wood shelf for strength, the other shelves being in glass to offer a sensation of space and roominess. This is accentuated by the mirrored backs, which allow the observer to view the pieces displayed from all angles.

The selection of curio cabinets available should suit all types of collector, and you are sure to find a cabinet suitable for any desired setting in your home. The 80-inch tall Highlands Curio Curved Corner Cabinet is particularly impressive.

Gun Cabinets
Jasper Cabinet Company is famed for its gun cabinets and the firm offer two in particular: the Remington 6-Gun Cabinet and the Remington 10-Gun cabinet. These come in either cherry or oak, and are fitted with cupboards and drawers. All are lockable. There is also a billiards cabinet with cue racks and space for balls and triangles.

Entertainment Cabinets
Among the more recent developments by the Jasper Cabinet Company is its range of entertainment cabinets. These include TV stands and cabinets, including a 52-inch wide pop-up TV cabinet. This is the Normandy Cabinet, which is fitted with a whisper remote-controlled flat-screen TV lift at the back.

The firm also offers two impressive entertainment wall units. The LaSalle media center 505 is 109.75"w x 22.5"d x 78.25"h and comprises a console with side units, a hutch and a rack of open display sections. The bottom part offers a selection of cupboards and drawers.

The Meridian media centre 510 is even larger, at 107.5"w, 27"d, 80"h, and the console and display units here are fitted with glass doors.

These are just a small selection of what the Jasper Cabinet Company has to offer. You can check out its full range of products here:
