Choosing Living Room Furniture

When choosing living room furniture you should purchase what you like, and the pieces that you feel suits the decorative style of your living room - but also keep in mind that first impressions count. This is the first room after your entrance hall that visitors will likely see, and it should present the character that you want it to present.

Quality counts with other people, and your choice of furniture should be something for you to be proud to show others. Keep in mind that your furniture goes beyond just seating and dining, but also includes coffee and cocktail tables, entertainment units, display and curio cabinets and everything else that is involved in furnishing a home.

Sofas and Armchairs

That said, you have many choices when selecting your living room furniture. Starting with the seating, much will depend upon the size and design of your living room. If your room is large, then a selection of sofas and armchairs would work well, and you could include a sofa bed for occasional unexpected guests, and recliners to offer more comfort when you relax.

You can choose from any of the fabulous living room furniture we offer, including products from many American furniture manufacturers such as Sherrill, Stickley and Southwood furniture.  If you require items of furniture made to your own specifications, then The Custom Shoppe offers that service, and Simply Amish will alter their pieces to meet your needs.

Most homes furnish their living room with a sofa and generally two armchairs, together with some occasional furniture and accent pieces.  However, should they desire something different, and arrange their furniture to make the best use of the space available to them, many others will choose sectional furniture.

Sectional Furniture

Sectional furniture, or sectionals as they are generally referred to, comprises furniture units designed to fit together as needed. For example, you can have two armless sofas fitted together, with end pieces that provide the side arms. Sectionals are available that fit tight to the walls, and can be arranged perfectly around corners to use all the space available in your living room. Usually corners are wasted space - but not with sectionals!

Functional sectional pieces are available in the form of sliders, rockers, recliners and even sofa bed options. These can be used in any part of your sectional arrangement, not only to enable you to utilize the whole of your living room space, but also to provide you with total functionality and comfort.

Occasional Living Room Furniture

A corner not taken up by sectionals can be fitted with a corner curio cabinet.  This can be used to display your antique or curio collections, or even your sports trophies. Occasional chairs include  traditional rocking chairs such as the Cherry Hollow and traditional hickory rockers offered by Simply Amish.

Occasional tables such as coffee tables and cocktail tables are common components of any living room, but if you have the room, end tables are more appreciated because people do not have to bend down to get their dinks. With a table by their side, tight against a sofa or chair, they feel more comfortable when eating or drinking in an informal environment.

Entertainment Furniture

Among the choice of entertainment furniture available from Patterson Furniture are individual cabinets designed for a TV screen and games console. However, there are more substantial entertainment options that you might want in your living room. Complete wall units are available that double as entertainment  centers and display units.  With room for a flat screen TV screen, all the boxes it comes with, including the DVD player and recorder, and also your hi-fi system and speakers, these units also offer glass-fronted cabinets for display and can be designed to fit an entire wall.

The Custom Shoppe allows you to design your own wall entertainment unit,  even to the extent of doubling your TV screen and a display unit, and revolving one for the other when needed.  This customizable furniture company enables you to design your own furniture and have it made for you- or you can choose from the custom designs of other clients.
